Moving to Australia for 6 months with a 2year old. HELP!

I hope this is in the right place,
We want to get away from everything over here and go to Australia for 6months ish, but don't have a clue what we need to do! Or even where we want to go out there!
We're going to sell our house and put our cash in a high interest account and hope the interest will cover some of our living costs, then if we later want to get a part-time job. Do we need special visa's?
We don't want to be in a city, but we need to be near a big town. We want to be near beaches and parks and somewhere that excepts outsiders! We just want to spend an amazing 6 months with our son, picnics walks etc.
We're thinking near Sydney or The Gold coast.
We also need to find a comapny that rents little houses (2bed, furnished) that aren't at extortionate holiday makers prices!
Any help, experiences, websites or links to previous threads would be greatly appreciated!:j
We're 24, 21 and 2 years old! If that makes any difference!

You will need visas, which will last for three months, if you enter Oz a tourists. This website gives all the info re visas:

"You should read this information if you are applying for your first or second Working Holiday visa.
This visa is for people aged 18 to 30 years of age, who are interested in a working holiday of up to 12 months in Australia.
Important: Applicants must have turned 18, but not turned 31, at the time of visa application."
This is what were after I think, we'll probably do a bit of work there. But what kind'v visa does the little 1 need?I'm getting older, and lifes getting harder!:mad:0 -
You can't go for a working holiday visa if you have any dependent children.
I suppose its to stop people running off from their kids/ responsibility'sGeneral requirements
You must:- be outside Australia when you apply and, when your visa is granted.
- not have entered Australia on a Working Holiday visa before
- be aged between 18 and 30 years (inclusive) at the time of applying
- be applying no more than 12 months before you intend to travel to Australia.
- not have dependent children (either at the time of applying or after the visa has been granted)
- hold a passport for a country or region participating with Australia in the Working Holiday Maker programme

Thanks for this i spotted this after some further research!
So what can we do about visa's for the 3 of us? He's not of school age, so we're not expecting free education for him. We can prove we have enough money to support ourselves and not claim anything! We just want to do light work while were out there so we don't use up all our savings.
Surely someone has taken a few months out in Australia with a child?I'm getting older, and lifes getting harder!:mad:0 -
I can't help with the visa enquiry but try researching the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria for seaside towns an hour and a half by train from Melbourne." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

Basically you can't legally work without a visa that permits you to-employment is forbidden on a tourist visa. At worst you'd get deported and not be able to return. That isn't to say people haven't done it-but it's one thing to be detained for illegal working -and another entirely when you have a toddler with you.
You really need to have enough money that you don't need to work whilst you are there.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Thanx John, I'll look into these. I'm hoping there is a way one of us can go as an independant person (no dependant children) and can work while the other has the tourists visa & the little one and not work! Don't know if we can do that though!I'm getting older, and lifes getting harder!:mad:0

Can't help with visas, but in terms of places to live what about these?
http://www.warrnamboolinfo.com.au/VisitWarrnambool.asp (got a REALLy great playground for kiddies there!)
or http://www.visitphillipisland.com/ (lots of nice child safe beaches)
or http://www.visitmorningtonpeninsula.org/subregions.asp
I've been to all with a 18 month year old and they would all be great. These would all be much cheaper than near sydney or gold coast0
