Ha no ed - Lentilles vertes is the work around for small, green lentils grown in places like Canada and Italy, to enable Puy Lentils - which have the 'place of origin' (like wine) to be distinguished and protected. Puy lentils can only be named so, if they come from a specific geographic area in France, whereas Lentilles Vertes are very similar, but can be grown outside the defined area.
Speaking personally. I don't ever get to sample 'Chab-liss', I'm in the el cheapo plonk department 🤣So I wouldn't be able to hold a convo around 'straw coloured, and grassy notes……' 🤭

LG's reasoning about the oranges is very sweet & highly amusing! I completely emphatized with the name of something being a turn off. - I didn't even know what they were until moving here 20 years ago, in fact the variety of fruit & veg available in the UK was eye-opening! - I don't think those oranges were around across the pond north of the border - our orange season involved Florida navel oranges and clementines. Now with the fluorescentfluorescent man's tarrif's, I hear that they hhave become eye-wateringly expensive!
As to the legume allergy - yes peanuts are part of the same family and for me anaphylactic - epi-pen at the ready - the interesting thing about legume allergies is that they are different for each person - for instance I can tolerate chickpeas and hummus in limited quantities but kidney & lima beans are as problematic as peanuts! These days I read labels like a hawk as pea-protein is slipped into everything! Prepapared high protein usually means laced with legumes of some sort!4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! Oh rt - that is awful, but yes micro-analysis of ingredients is a must, for all manner of additives. I hadn't thought about pea-protein and it's increasing presence in all manner of foodstuffs tho. We got given some porridge oats the other week, and they were enhanced with soy powder - and whilst we don't (currently) suffer allergies to soy, we could do. And yes, it did clearly say on the front of the packet that soy protein was in it, but I wouldn't necessarily connect soy with enhanced protein of a breakfast cereal…….
Lunch has been munched. I went for borlotti bean soup - using a couple of the 33p tins from fArmf00ds. It was OK, but I think I should have included celery in my base - I went for just onion, garlic and green pepper (are you sensing a theme here? 🤣), it lacked a little savouriness. I added in the rest of the tin of chopped tommies (used some last night), and did the same trick of blitzing a couple of sun-dried tomatoes in it. Some water, a splodge of tommie puree and some paprika and mixed herbs and that was it. All that was missing for me was a slight savoury depth - it was a reasonable lunch otherwise. It made 3 medium portions and all plates were cleaned. We didn't need a super-filling lunch as we will munch some crisps whilst watching the rugger. I'm pondering whether to do wraps for tea, using some smoked tofu. I probably won't try out the fajita sauce if we're eating on our laps, but I think the boofay concept will go down well.
Right, I'm away to call the troops in from the cold, as I was asked to, so that they can settle in to watch the rugger.

I'm another who scrutinise labels, always for gluten (coeliac offspring) and often for legumes/soy/peas when catering for a friend who has a health condition for which they need to eat a high protein low iron diet while also being allergic to soy and legumes. Soy, gluten and legumes seems to slip into everything which makes shopping difficult especially if trace amounts are prohibited due to allergies.

Gosh, Lady Luck is on my side today. I decided to get the washing in, as I thought if it came to rain, (forecast), it might reverse all the good work of this morning - and if I was watching the rugger, I might not notice. So I went and got everything in, and was saying to DH I was flabbergasted how well the clothes had dried - the breeze, coupled with a warm air temperature had done the job. I got everything off the line, popped it on the airer and was dispensing drinks and crisps….. and the heavens literally opened and it's now raining. There is no need to put the dehu on, I'm very, very lucky. And yes, OK, so we're talking about a saving of what 50p? or £1 had I not put anything out on the line? But it's the pennies that add up, isn't it?

It isn't just the pennies avoided spending - it is the irritation felt if things had got wet again, that's avoided too.

GP - You mentioned your Rose Elliott book which made me go & look at the one that I have, The Bean Book, published in 1979.
I have a bad reaction.to quorn. I've only eaten it twice, the first time I was very sick but didn't really connect it to what I'd eaten. I tried it again a few weeks later & passed out on the bathroom floor. Needless to say, I will never eat it again but I have to be careful if it's in a ready meal. Not that I ever buy those but there's always the chance someone will serve it up for me.

That is my favourite cook book!
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!5 -

kayannie - I have had a reaction to qu0rn. Not when it first came out, but after one of the….. manufacturing/processing changes - it too made me sick. I left it alone for a good long while, and then something made me try it again, and I was OK. But I know that it has a reputation for reactions, so I do use it, but not all that often. But if I had the type of reactions you've had, I would have no hesitation to leave it on the shelf.
Watty & kayannie - that's the book I have too 😁Sometimes I think it's a bit dated, but at the time, it was a groundbreaking tome. Mine is very, very second-hand. I think i rescued it from going to a carboot bargain bucket.
Tea has been munched - I went with smoked tofu wraps. We got gifted a bag of salad (random), and I had the wraps from MrL - I used the seeded ones today. The smoked tofu was MrL organic, and I shredded up a couple of carrots, sliced some cucumber, toasted some seeds and make a garlicky dressing. I also peeled and segmented 3 oranges. We finally used the little extendable card table/nest of tables to have our tea in the lounge during the Six Nations! It's only taken 3 years 🤣 It's worked well, so we will have to see about deploying it again in future 😁
The less said about the England team's efforts in the rugger the better. Extremely well played Ireland 👏 I know someone had to lose (although a draw could have been achieved I guess), but I was surprised that Wales seemed (ever so slightly) to lose concentration in the last 10 minutes or so. Usually Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and Italy absolutely keep playing to the final whistle, locking their try lines down.
Currently watching the curling - just hoping it's a great match, whatever the outcome.
