Advice on 10 year rental, major damp, disrepair!

  • Let me get this right:

the landlord replaced the damp course and took the property back to brick in an attempt to solve the damp issue.
You don’t feel it did, but stayed there for several years afterwards.
You kept the heating whacked up to 26 degrees and got into debt for it.
You eventually decided that enough was enough- after 10 years - and gave your notice in but left your belongings in the property with no indication as to when you would collect them.  You are now surprised that you are being chased for additional rent.
Just as you gave notice, the landlord died.  That makes no difference.  You have left the property and therefore it doesn’t matter that the executors are selling.

I honestly can’t see what more the landlord could have done here to be honest.  They have tried to sort out the problem.  If you weren’t happy then you could have moved.  You appear to be treating the place like a storage unit.  You are in fact lucky that your former landlord died and the executors are wanting to sell as otherwise you could have potentially been charged for costs incurred by a new tenant who couldn’t move in because your stuff was left behind.

Have you moved your stuff/arranged a time to collect it now?  If not, why not?
