British Gas customer: Am I paying way too much?

Hey guys!

Apologies because I am an idiot, so please bear with me.

So I bought a house in March. Just went with British Gas on a Standard Variable tariff for gas and electricity.

Currently, I have £114.46 coming off for electricity and 141.51 for gas.

£737.26 in credit for gas and £406.36 for electricity.

Is it normal to be that much in credit at this time of the year?

I read somewhere that it's good to be in credit over the winter - so should I hold off until spring and then ask for a refund?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • im no pro but have you put readings in to make a bill, that could wipe out a lot of that credit

Its good to be in credit with gas before winter, £700 is quite a bit but it depends how much you will spend in the next few months.
Your electricity credit is a little high and your monthly payment also unless you are a very high user.
You really need to give us more info on your usage.

I'm guessing you haven't had a bill yet

     Are you on smart meter

It's best to quote kWh rather than Sterling

Give the board your moving in reading and todays reading and you might get a better idea

    What area are you in

You need to be in credit this time of year to get through the winter
