January holiday inspiration

Hey folks im looking for some inspiration for a break in January.

I have booked off 2 weeks from 14th january to go on holiday with the wife.

We want somewhere sunny but dont really fancy africa, egypt or dubai. We have looked at Dominican republic but not really sure about the areas so if anyone has been there advise would be appreciated.

If anyone has any tips on any other destinations i would like to hear about it as we are desperate to get away and relax in the sun for a bit.

Also whats peoples experience of booking in January? is it better to wait till the week before to book or would now be a good a time as any?

Cheers

Why do you not want to go to the above places, and what kind of budget do you have?

Its a case of the paranoid wife syndrome and budget wise would prob be up to £650 per person

Problem with Goa is getting a visa organised in time. Malaysia 2 centre - Kuala Lumpur with Langkawi or Penang.

What about Cuba? You should be able to get a fortnight there for your budget, all inclusive, at the time you want to go. We went a couple of years back and had a lovely time. :)

I know this will sound a bit nieve, but is cuba not a bit dodgy? I admit i am not very knowledgeable about the country but thats just the impression i get.

You'll be fine in Cuba. My uncle has an apartment there, and they have never had a problem. Like anywhere (including the UK!), if you are ever unsure, just stick to tourist areas x

  • Cuba is amazing, going for our third time in January, weather is great, not too hot and hardly any mozzies. Fantastic people and the hotel we stay at is beautiful, maybe a bit more than you budget but worth every penny. We are travelling again with Eclipse direct who are basically first choice. Paradisus rio de oro in Hoquin.
Aim to win in 2013 - a holiday somewhere nice, New York break, treats for family & friends & some cash would be lovely!!!

No, we didn't find it dodgy either. :) The people are wonderfully friendly and it's a fascinating place.

We booked to go deep sea fishing and it was meant to be several other tourists on the boat with us, but no-one else had booked. There was just OH and I on this boat, all day long, with two fishermen and a guide, all for around £60! And that was including lunch and drinkies. We felt like millionaires must do when they take to sea to fish marlin! Well, I did, OH was too busy being sick over the side! :rotfl:That sort of experience would have cost us a fortune in Florida or somewhere similar. Not the being sick bit, of course, he could do that anywhere, but the rest of it! :D
