Low Income tax on savings

Hi if income is £8400 per year Pension and my tax code is 11310 (married women's allowance taken off)
is it correct that I can earn  £18570-£8400 = £10170 tax free interest on savings or because of the married allowance its £1000 less ?£9170
or is this assumption totally wrong
any advice would help its rather confusing
thank you

  • Forget the £18,570 as that doesn't apply to you.

You will have £2,900 spare Personal Allowance available.

Then the £5,000 savings starter rate band (interest taxed at 0%).

And once that is used the savings nil rate band (£1,000 interest taxed at 0%).

So a total of £8,900 before tax is actually payable.

  • Thanks for this that makes sense I think ! :)
