Lease for repossessed flat

Hi all,
I purchased a leasehold flat over a year ago which had been repossessed by a bank. Just realised recently that I still have not yet received the lease.
I was just wondering who is responsible for sending me the lease. Would this be the solicitor I used to make the purchase? they do not seem to be responding to my emails at the moment.
Thanks!

Your solicitor ought to have reported to you on the terms of the lease (and the titles in general) at the time, didn't they? They certainly ought to be able to send you a copy now (or failing that you can get one via the Land Registry).

With ours we had a copy in the pre-purchase legal info.

We then only received the original because we didn't take the solicitor up on their (paid) storage service.

The copy that matters will be the electronic version at land registry.

    thanks for the info.
I did get a copy during purchase but the solicitor wanted me to mail it back to them.
TBH that solicitor was an absolute nightmare to deal with (Ross Coates) so I will go to the land registry instead

You could have taken a photocopy before posting it back.  That's what I always do and am often surprised that many people don't.  Maybe I'm a bit too OCD but I don't like posting original certificates either, preferring to take them myself so that copies can be made and certified there and then and I take my original back home.
  • When you purchased 'the flat' you didn't - you purchased the lease. It's pretty important that you have it!
