Hi Everyone
I am in need of some help please, Sorry for the long post but I am now desperate.
I needed a new bathroom, and one of my friends on facebook shared a post regarding a business that did this.
I messaged her and asked her if they were any good, and she replied she hadn't had a bathroom fitment done by him but other jobs and she knew he's fitted loads of bathrooms.
So with that I messaged him had him call and went though everything I wanted. He gave me price and a finish date of estimate 10 days which was fine by me, I alerted him that it really needed to be 10 days due to us having a holiday booked on 14th July and my daughter her husband and baby would be coming to stay and would need a fully working bathroom.
We made a date to start and my hubby and I went and purchased all the bathroom bits I needed.
He came the first day late about 9,30 stated to take off the tiles from the walls, got most of it done the first day, then the second day he text to say he had to go to an appointment he'd been waiting weeks for, so i agreed thinking no more of it.
Then another text that day saying he would be late due to him having to go to get a bloody test and xray. I found it very strange knowing he knew he'd booked the time in to fit me a new bathroom.
The third day he turned up late again stating he had to get elements he needed to do the job, He came in and started the pipework , even though the tiles were not fully off the walls and I was left with just a toilet. I questioned this but he seemed to think that it would only be for a short while while he did pipework.
4th day worked all day on 2 pipes for shower and re routing for sink..... In this time the water poured down my ceiling into my kitchen cabinets, I called up and said water is pouring through ceiling, he came down t look, turned off water and capped the pipe, However this then soaked and spread into the corner of my kitchen and I now have a big stain which has dried out so needs either replacing or repainting.... more like replacing due to having a pipe pushed down further making the pipe hole larger and him saying he was going to re route the pipe to where the other one was so I didn't have it across my kitchen wall which made sense.
5th day came late 9.30 am and said he would be knocking off early to get more items he needed so come 2 pm he was off and I was left no washing facilities only a toilet. All weekend we had to run the hot tap to stop the over flow leaking onto our roof and there was a small leak on the toilet pipe due to him linking up to the mains.
I text him and told him and was told he'd be here Monday.. and the over flow was leaking before so it wasn't his fault, and he didnt contribute to it, Yes the over flow did leak but only once a week and we would run hot tap for seconds then it would stop, after he'd fiddled it was running over all the time onto my conservatory roof.
Monday came late again 9.30 and by this time my patients was running very thinly.... He's only been here for an our and told me he had to leave at 2 pm due to not having any MOT on the van, I was absolutely furious now, so I tool reg number and checked with GOV.uk and sure enough he'd driven to me with no TAX OR MOT... For a business I didn't think that was really acceptable!
Off he went at 2 pm then I got text next morning he'd be mid morning arrival due to van being on the ramp being repaired, By this time I couldn't take anymore, My bathroom was no nearer being done, he'd put no dust sheets down to cover any of my carpet or the new sink he'd put in which wasn't allowed to be used due to no waste and pipe work sticking out of the floor by approx 18 inches where my shower tray was meant to go..
He was just oblivious too anything.So I made the decision f telling him not to return......
Later that day he text me telling me I owed him for work done which to me was nothing complete, he;s start something then start something else....
he then said he wanted his tools back so I arranged he come back the following day to collect..
He came to my door with a face like thunder and I knew I was in for something not nice..
I had all the tools by my door for him t just take, as he was taking them he gave me the reciepts for pipework and bits he'd purchased n 2 occasions one of which never entered my property.I questioned this and got shouted at see you in court! Not once did I say he would not be paid..
He got very violent and abusive calling me C*** and more throwing his tools in the van and hitting the van and to be honest I was scared..
Roll on a couple of hours and I get inundated with texts and messages with how much I owed him
and when I questioned the damage and the cancelled holiday because we had no bathroom and the damage caused and the pipework not fit for purpose and I should have alerted him too the damage and had him back to repair stating the consumer act... I didn't want him back he scared me..
And because I got a quote for putting things right and the damage he's now doubled his invoice and demanding payment!
I am not willing to pay for something that was not fit for purpose and had to be replaced before all my bathroom could be fitted..
Another issue was his facebook page was for bathroom and kitchen s now changed to Gardener and all stock photo's removed after I made complaint, and when I questioned this it was overlooked and not mentioned. I now do NOT think he is a genuine tradesman.
He told me another women questioned his work and bad mouthed him on facebook now I know why, The work is just not a tradmans work
What can I do?

I would pay the original quote minus cost of finishing and fixing damage (document everything with photos).
If contact, either by phone or in person, becomes excessive best to call the police.

Then don't pay - he will either do nothing or take you to court
If the latter you will get a chance to put your side and the judge will make a decision1 -
I wouldn't pay anything and let him take you to Court. Where you can show your evidence of photos videos and the new company who will fix his shoddy work.AMBERSHADOW said:

His work was substandard I have video and photosChances are he wont take you to Court. Probably relies on being aggressive and shouting about rights and Court to scare people.1 -
If you can show that the cost of correcting his mistakes and completing the job will cost more than he quoted then fair enough.AMBERSHADOW said:

Keep a record or quotes and anything you pay out to finish the job in case he takes it to court.
