Advice Needed on Potential Car Purchase
Hello All,
I've been looking at a 2011 Ford Kuga 2.0, Zetec TDCI 140.
I have looked at the car, it's running well, a few paintwork scratches and other minor defects. It has 126k miles which is a lot. The car is being sold privately for £4k but suspect they will accept less.
Does anyone have any advice in general or on this car in particular? I'm not an expert on cars.
Thanks in advance.

Suggest you get it inspected by a mechanic, a 12 year old vehicle is a risky proposition.
The average scrappage age is 13 to 14 years for mainstream vehicles like this.0 -
Its a 12 year old car whuch won't last forever. After doing ususal visiual checks, MOT history checks etc at that age and mileage three things in particular I'd be asking about.
When was the cambelt last changed.
When was the clutch last changed.
Has the DPF been changed.
If any of the above have not been changed bid accordingly.1 -
That's about average miles for a 12 year old diesel.
Have a look at the latest mot to see if there are any outstaning advisories.
Do an hpi check
Ask if the cambelt has been changed. I thi nk it's10 years/100k on those engines1 -

Colleague had a Mondeo with that engine of similar vintage and the DPF was changed at about 130,000.0

2011 diesel won't be ULEZ compliant, so £4k seems quite a lot.
My FiL sold his 2024 C4 90k miles for £2.2k. I know that is a substantially different car, but it gives a comparative reference.0 -
Cam belt changed at recent MOT in July..0

£4k is reasonable if it's in good condition - have seen that vintage going for over 5k1
