Electoral roll

I am acting as executor on a property. Council has been in contact for annusl electoral roll keeping purposes. The house is empty but as an executor am i able to register to vote there? The estate after all conyinues to pay council tax.

    No, merely being an executor doesn't give you a vote, and there's no relationship between liability for council tax and being on the electoral roll.
  • I understand there is no link. My point was the estate is paying the council tax but has no "voice" if i dont have the right to vote.

    Is there likely to be a local election before you dispose of the property?

    You do otherwise have the same rights as anybody else to make representations etc about council-related matters. Local businesses etc don't have a vote either but obviously make their views known.

    As you can’t be on the electoral roll twice then surely you’d lose the voice you have in your own ward/district? 
  • Yes, there is likely to be an election.

    My understsnding is that you can be on more than one electoral roll - second home owners for example - as their may be a local election in one area and not the other. What you cant do is vote twice in a national election.

    That's correct. But it does need to be some form of residence of the voter, merely owning an empty property doesn't give you a vote.
