Clarification for UC claiming

If you can help, I'd be grateful as I can't find clarification of the rules.

If you can reply, could you do so with easy-to-understand language/explanations?

Can you still claim CB ESA if invited to claim UC?

As above but with PIP?

As above but with CB?

Does being invited to claim UC mean CB ESA is/will be included in that benefit?

As above but with PIP?

As above but with CB?

Do you have to claim UC if you still want to receive CB (from CTC)?

Do you have to claim UC, if invited to, if the child is in the last year of education?

Is claiming UC still a nightmare?

If in SG of CB ESA are you required to look for work/work if claiming/receiving UC?

How does child maintenance affect UC if it will only be for the last year of education?

Think that's it for now.  Looking forward to any assistance, thanks

    That's a lot of questions.

It's called New style ESA now and not contributions based. If you don't already claim CB ESA you can only claim New style if you have have the correct NI contributions in the previous 2 tax years. Yes, you can cliam both UC and NsESA at the same time but the ESA is deducted in full from any UC entitlement.

Answers in bold to make it easier.

Can you still claim CB ESA if invited to claim UC? Question answered above.

As above but with PIP? PIP isn't part of UC.

As above but with CB? CB isn't part of UC.

Does being invited to claim UC mean CB ESA is/will be included in that benefit? No, it's a completely different benefit.

As above but with PIP? Already answered.

Do you have to claim UC if you still want to receive CB (from CTC)? CB doesn't include anything for your children. If you're claiming Tax credits and you're invited to claim UC, if you don't claim it then your Tax credits will end on the date in the letter.

Do you have to claim UC, if invited to, if the child is in the last year of education? No, rest of question answered above.

Is claiming UC still a nightmare? Some say it is but others not. I didn't have any issues when i claimed for my daughter.

If in SG of CB ESA are you required to look for work/work if claiming/receiving UC? No. You will automatically be entitled to LCWRA element of UC from the start of your claim.

How does child maintenance affect UC if it will only be for the last year of education? It doesn't affect it.

Think that's it for now.  Looking forward to any assistance, thanks

  • Thanks so much.

I know my questions have been kindly answered, I think I understand but just so I'm certain, and for clarity, could someone just answer a couple more questions?

I've decided not to claim UC & know CTC will stop.

Will my ESA & PIP continue as usual?

Will I still receive Child Benefit until my child leaves school?

    Thanks

If all your ESA is contributions based then this will continue. Child benefit and PIP will also continue. None of those are part of UC.
