Redecorating after water damage

We have had a water leak into our downstairs toilet.
Part of the ceiling and the wall above the door are affected.
What is the best way to prepare the damaged areas for repainting?
Can the bulges be sorted?
We plan to fix and repaint the entire ceiling. It is only 1 x 1.5 m.
We plan to only repair and repaint the small area of the wall above the door. We can get the same paint from 6 years ago and any slight differences will not be easily noticeable.
Thanks

A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".
