Pension contributions

Hi all - I've just been offered a new job but in the contract I've been sent, the employer states that although they have a workplace pension they will not be making any contributions to it.  I thought this was mandatory.  My salary is above the minimum.  Grateful of any advice before I respond to the company

Your employer must contribute the minimum amount if you earn more than:

    • £520 a month
    • £120 a week
    • £480 over 4 weeks

They do not have to contribute anything if you earn these amounts or less.

If you earn more than the above then your employer must automatically enrol you into a pension scheme and make contributions to your pension

Not quite right. Employers only have to auto enrol if someone earns at least £10,000 a year and is aged at least 22 but below their State Pension Age. Other workers may be enrolled if they ask.

OP - how old are you and how much will you be earning? If you are in the 'must be automatically enrolled' group of workers, then it's possible you've simply received a letter with the wrong bit carelessly cut and pasted into it by someone who either doesn't know what they're doing or didn't check properly.
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

It is certainly worth double checking that! Do you know what type of pension scheme it is?
