Home Insurance - Advice Please

Hi
We have had an offer accepted on a new home and this is being dealt with by our solicitors and going through nicely, property is currently empty so fingers crossed everything goes to plan.
The new property will need some cosmetic updating which we plan to start on once we get it but won't be living there full-time.We plan to put our current home on the market once we are a few weeks in to the updating of the new property.
We are unsure what to do about home insurance - we will not be leaving either property empty for longer than 30 days as we will stay over at the new property when we are updating it and then come back to our current home and once we move into the "new" home we will be coming back here and staying overnight now and again ensuring it is not empty for 30 nights concurrently.
In this situation I'm not sure what we do about getting home insurance - can we get a standard home insurance policy for the new home or do we need to buy second home cover. I'm so confused.
Thanks
Ms Choc

In your shoes, rather than take the word of anyone here, I'd be talking to your insurance company directly and see what they say. It's safer to make sure that they understand exactly what the situation is than for you to think you are covered and only find out in the unfortunate case you need to claim that you're not because they say you've not informed them of a material change of circumstance.2
