Approved Claims Group Ltd

This company recently obtained over £500 from HMRC by pretending to be my agent and submitting a claim form with a forged signature. HMRC don't seem to be interested and the ill named Action Fraud say that no crime has been committed! I can't get hold of ACG Ltd, their "help line" is a prerecorded sham and they don't answer emails. My accountant tells me that this sort of thing is going on all the time and it seems to me that the authorities are not interested in putting a stop to it. It could be that millions is going into the pockets of these criminals and nothing is being done to stop it. Who said crime doesn't pay?

This this has happened to me. They never answer the phone or email and when ringing it puts you on hold and no matter how long you wait on hold it always says “there are more than 10 callers ahead of you.” They have scammed me out of my payment of £369 which is due to me. HMRC not interested either2

This may be of use it shows HMRC will take action sometimes:- In this case following information from MSE. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/information-for-customers-of-tax-credits-ltd/information-for-customers-of-tax-credits-ltd-refunding-tax-reclaims2

Thanks Nearlyold. I've filled in the form from the site you suggested. I just can't understand why the authorities aren't over these thieves like a rash. I've written to all the financial authorities and even the BBC consumer programmes but no response from any of them except Action Fraud who told me there is nothing to investigate!
It will be interesting to see if anyone else posts on this thread with the same experience.1 -
You may wish to speak to the FCA if you have not already done so. While you are unlikely to get any money back, this firm are showing as dormant company and do not appear to be FCA regulated either.
I work in Data Protection and spend my days dealing with CMC's. Only here trying to help!!0 -
I don't believe tax refund claims are required to be regulated by the FCA.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.1

All the agencies are useless so I've gone to the police. Let's see what happens.1

Just had the same experience. I’ve had three letters from HMRC stating I am being sent a refund to this company. I have them for something to say I have signed up but had no reply and I cannot honestly remember signing upto them.I have had a single email from them saying I have a refund but I have to provide all sorts of id to receive it including my bank details, photo I’d, utility bills and council, rent or mortgage statements to prove who I am. This whole thing doesn’t feel right.Oh and wenlock road is a place for just registering business which I did use one time and I am wondering if this is how they have gotten my details.0

HMRC have also paid a tax refund due to me to this company
ive complained but heard nothing from HMRC
it’s disgusting that they accept an authority from anyone other than the taxpayer
im pursuing a complaint with HMRC but not holding my breath
Disgusting way to manage people’s financial affairs0 -
I had a phone call from the police but it's all gone quiet now. I've just asked for an update and written again to HMRC fraud department demanding action (huh!).
Keep up the pressure folks!!0 -
Hi,
I'm on the phone to HMRC about this as I type. I was on my way to posting copies of my documents to Approved Claims to get my money. Had to check online to get the address and saw it's closed. The review button brought up this thread and wow! Not sure where I'll get talking to HMRC but worth a shot0
