6 months upfront - UniversalCredit

Im currently renting and receiving some help from UC to pay my rent. In few weeks i'm moving house and my rent will increase from 1150 to 1450.

My agent/landlord asked me to pay 6 months upfront so i won't be paying any rent till Jan 2024.

My question is will UC still help me on monthly basis with my rent even tho i'll pay 6 months upfront and won't be paying anything till Jan 2024?

Paying rent 6 months upfront is not a problem, you will still get the H.E. monthly.
What could be a problem is how you fund it, as with deposit will be about £10k so if you have savings of that amount it would have needed to be declared.

Thank you, yes money will come from my account and it's the money i've managed to save over period of time. Will they require prove of statements of some sort?

Once your capital was over £6,000 did you reported it? As if you didn't you will be facing an overpayment, how much will depend on how much over the £6k and for how long it has been going on.

No, all savings in your name have to be reported.

Best to do it now you've found out, as at this point it's just a genuine mistake and you should hopefully only have to pay back what they overpaid you.  If you don't, it'll be fraud and you won't know when it's going to catch up with you, plus you'll be penalised for not telling them.

When you claimed UC you would have been asked if you had any savings over £6,000 and if so, how much. It doesn't matter where your savings are, which bank or whether they are just hidden at home.

You need to report a change of circumstances and tell them about your savings. There's a £4.35/month deduction for every £250 or part thereof over £6,000. Savings of more than £16,000 will end entitlement.

If you're claiming council tax reduction please be aware that some local Authorities have a maximum savings rule of £6,000 before entitlement to CTR ends. You'll need to report the changes to your local Authority too.

Any overpayment will need to be repaid back.

As paying 6 months in advance will be a condition of you being able to rent, that still is fine to do,  if after you pay that amount your capital falls under £6k there will be no deduction from then on until or if your capital goes over £6k again.
As advised above, will be an overpayment on UC and possible CTR
