P45

Hello folks, hopefully I’m in the correct forum. I have just recently retired and my friend has offered me a part time job working 12 hours a week. I have also been offered a bank post at the local hospital which I plan to do 1 day a week, my question is what do I do with my P45? I think I give it to my friend but what about the Hospital position? I am also taking my DB Pension from the 6th of August. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I  had more than one job + pension, trying to remember what I did! I think I just had the tax coding set against one (in your case probably your friend's job) and told the others that I had other employment and they sorted it out with HMRC - pensions and hospitals are used to dealing with this

If you will be paying tax on the combination of your original job and the DB pension then I wouldn't give either of the new employees your P45.

Complete a new starter declaration and tick statement C and you will be put on code BR (basic rate tax).

Thank you for the replies. My DB is £850 per month and I will get £528 per month from the job with my friend and £500 from the Hospital. Will I pay National insurance?

No, each job is looked at separately so no NI is payable on those monthly amounts.

Have you checked your SP forecast to see if / how many more years you need ?  The monthly threshold for NI credits without paying is currently £533 so you may need to earn a little more in one of those jobs :)

State pension forecast says I will get full state pension at age 66 and I cannot improve my score anymore.
