Hi all, you were helpful to me start of the year for helping my Mam and now need slight help again. My mam reached state pension today so we know so she comes off UC as here first state pansion payment is August 11th as confirmed in a letter.

Is it best to close the claim for my mam through her UC account or will DWP close it automatically??

Also will it end immediately or will she  complete the current assessment period and then close her UC??

And how do the inheriting of some of my late father's state pension work? Is it automatic or she got to apply for it?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Anthony

DWP should cost the UC after she reaches pension pension and she will get one UC final payment for the UC assessment period in which in she reached pension age.

Whether or do she can incur any of her husband's SP depends on what type of SP shows getting. Pension Services should sort it out.

(The Bereavement Support payments will stop.)

Thanks for your reply. On the letter for Bereavement Support it said the payments will stop July, so it will not be paid. Thanks again

Sorry, that was a typo on my part! I meant to say the BSP will stop, now corrected.

    It's complicated.
As she has reached state pension age after April 2016 it depends upon upon when her husband reached state pension age and whether she paid full NI or married woman's stamp . As a widow, she may be able to transpose her husbands NI record for hers and receive up to the basic state pension.
If her husband had any additional state pension (SERPS/S2P) and GRB elements then she will be able to inherit 50% of those amounts.
I doubt any of this will happen automatically and, given recent mistakes over state pensions, would suggest she contacts the pension service anyway to ensure it is worked out correctly.
