Help with no hot water, airlock

This happened to me 6 months or so ago, I called out a plumber and he said that there was some air trapped. He fiddled around with the taps at the back of my washing machine and went to the bathroom a couple of times and seemed to have fixed it. I had to pay £40 for the priviledge!

Is there anyone out there that could possibly help me with this? I would really like to save the plumbers bill and what he did wasn't technical. I am just unsure what to do and don't want water going everywhere! I do have cold water but when I turn the hot tap on there is nothing coming out.

Thankyou in advance.

  • It's ok, have asked my neighbour to have a look. Thanks.
  • As I remember it, the trick is:
    1. Connect hot and cold taps together with a short piece of garden hose
    2. Turn hot tap on
    3. Turn cold tap on
    Problem fixed!
This was on a traditional vented system with a hot water cylinder and header tank in the roof. I don't know it works\is safe with a direct system with hot water coming from a combi boiler
