Cheque received in my deceased mums name

Hi all, my mum passed away in March and as she didn't have any estate etc it was all straightforward in regards to her pensions and bank, but a solicitor has advised me they have an historic residual refund for her, she didn't have a will and the POA ended the day she passed away,  I've been advised this morning that they are sending a cheque but will have to be in her name, but obviously I won't be able to cash it. Can anyone advise me what I would need, to prove I am the beneficiary?

Just tell the the solicitor you need the cheque in your name as the administrator of your mother ‘s  estate.
  • I did, they said I need proof that I am the administrator, it was strange as he knew she had passed away as I had just told him, but he asked if I had POA, I did but that ends when the person dies, and cant be used after that, as I was advised to return it the public office when she passed, I would have thought he would know that. I'm going to call them back, thanks for your reply.
