Hi,

Is it a bad idea to open 2 joint accounts in the same day regarding credit scores?

I want to open a first direct joint account so me and my wife can have our wage going in and bills going out of and open a chase joint account to have our disposable income in for our own spending on anything we want.

If anyone has a better idea than any feedback is welcomed.

Thanks!

Chase don’t do a hard search, also they don’t do joint accounts.
Never had or wanted a joint account with the wife.
If one screws up their credit it will affect the other.

Don't stress about the credit score - two new accounts will hardly dent it and the effect diminishes in time.

I'd suggest a better "joint structure" would be for you to each have your own current accounts with salaries paid into them and then have a joint current account that you both contribute to each month in equal or unequal proportions depending upon your incomes and attitudes(!) Then setup all the joint expenses on the joint account - food, bills, mortgage/rent etc. It makes it easy to see and control the household budget. If you want to save jointly for something like holidays, cars etc set up a joint savings account.

It's only a suggestion though. There are many ways to slice this particular cake.

Personally I'd use a Starling or Monzo account for everything joint (and actually that's what we do) You can split things into spaces and pots so it's easy to use the same joint account for both bills and spending. You also both get a personal account.
