Buying electric cabling at DIY shops

I needed to buy 1 metre of 2 core round electric cable today so off I went to the local B&Q.

Surprise surprise - they have stopped selling all electric cable 'loose' - you now have to purchase prepacked cables starting at 5 metres worth!

Ditto for Focus DIY, Homebase and Wickes.

Try a builders merchant. They tend to be cheaper anyway.

Just move the socket 4 metres away and the cable will be the perfect length.

Try Wilkinsons if you have one near you. They still do cable off the reel.

As I work for one of the big multiples, I'll apologise for this problem but it all has to do with upcoming H&S changes and packaging with safety notices ie. that's why we're all moving to pre pack cable.

This is why it's still available via 'trade' outlets because it is assumed that they only sell to people who know what they're doing

Time was of the essence so I went back to Wickes for the prepacked stuff.

It was for a light fitting.
