Should I charge for promotional photographs?

Hi all, a bathroom fitting company has just completed installing our dream bathroom and have done a very good job.

They would now like to take some photographs so they can show prospective clients, use in promotional material and put on their website. I'm very happy to say yes, but I'm now thinking that as the bathroom cost (to me) a small fortune, should I not try and ask for some financial benefit in return? Is this being too cheeky? I'd be interested to hear from others who have played "hard ball" with a supplier!

What is it going to cost you to have them photograph it? Anything more than that amount is very cheeky and normally if someone has done a very good job they get a tip rather than being charged.
  • I wouldn't bother. They'll have plenty of other bathrooms to feature - they're not particularly desperate to show yours.

The cost of the bathroom to you is irrelevant.

They’ve most probably already got photos, I always take loads before, mid and end photos.

No wonder we're struggling to recruit good qaulity tradespeople in this country. They do a poor job and customers want a discount. They do a great job and customers still want a discount. I've heard it all now  :D

I'm only pulling your leg OP but on a serious note, I wouldn't ask them to pay me for taking pictures of their job. I'd be happy that I've found someone to do a job to a high enough standard, they want to photograph it.

Plus you might want them back at some time for future improvements ,they might remember you and tell you they are too busy to fit you in.

If you look at bathroom fitters FaceBook and other profiles you will see this is normal.
I agree, think if you ask for money they may add it onto your next bill when you need them - if they come

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

    Daft idea.

For driveways and landscaping you can get a discount with a sign outside advertising they did the work, for bathrooms it is just standard that they will take a photo. They will do dozens a year so will just ask the next bloke.

I've read this and thought really?

Just be glad they did a good job and feel happy they wish to show it off.

I feel that asking for a discount is just rude.

It's a yes or no. If it's a no they will photograph the next one.

Well its not really a discount, you still pay the full price, they just pretend they have discounted it to that...
