Was looking for a car ( 2012 wrangler 4dr), and found a intresting one but this one had many mot done in 2 months until it was cleared.
Car is been sitting for 6 months, Dealers ship have mixed reviews and they advertised the car for 19000 but accepeted my offer of 17.700. (market value is 19.000 and its a 4dr wrangler 2012)

These were the following faults:

  • Offside Front fog lamp inop
  • Nearside Rear Direction indicator slightly discoloured (4.4.3 (a))
  • Offside Rear Direction indicator slightly discoloured (4.4.3 (a))
  • Nearside Front Drive shaft joint worn, but not excessively (6.1.7 (c) (i))
  • Hydraulic leak, but not excessive gearbox (8.4.1 (a) (i))
  • Nearside Rear Brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (1.1.14 (a) (ii))
  • Offside Rear Brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (1.1.14 (a) (ii))
  • Nearside Brake hose has slight corrosion to ferrule (1.1.12 (f) (i))
Then they did another MOT:

  • Offside Front fog not working
  • Nearside Rear Direction indicator slightly discoloured (4.4.3 (a))
  • Offside Rear Direction indicator slightly discoloured (4.4.3 (a))
  • Oil leak, but not excessive sumps rotten (8.4.1 (a) (i))
  • Offside Front side marker not working
  • Nearside Front Brake hose has slight corrosion to ferrule (1.1.12 (f) (i))
  • Offside Front Brake hose has slight corrosion to ferrule (1.1.12 (f) (i))
  • Nearside Rear Brake hose has slight corrosion to ferrule (1.1.12 (f) (i))
  • Offside Rear Brake hose has slight corrosion to ferrule (1.1.12 (f) (i))
  • Rear Brake disc worn, but not excessively (1.1.14 (a) (i))

And then last mot was clear with no faults, they claim they will also give me a new fresh mot as there is less then 6 months left for the current one. 3 Months warranty.

Should i be concerned ?? i dont mind spend £1000 to fix the car if there is any issue but wanted to have an advice from you guys .

What's so special about this car that makes it worth the risk ? Presumably not from a main dealer and, if the 'market value' is £19k then an offer acceptance at £17.7k doesn't particularly make it worth the risk unless you have confidence in the seller that they'll still be there/fix any issues a few weeks down the line.

Given the number of MOT's (and the recent 'clean' one) are you confident the issues are fixed ? or just that they've found a friendly MOT tester ?

Surely better to find one at £19k from a trusted seller without all the potential issues.

What is the car and how old is it?
When were the MOT's done? All from the same place?

It could be that the first MOT was done by someone who decided to trade it in rather than fix it, then the dealer did an MOT to see what needs to be done and finally another MOT after addressing the issues.

Those all seem like fairly minor advisories, so I'd be surprised that a garage would fix them all, but it wouldn't be impossible.

If you are going ahead with it, can get them to prove the work was actually done? Can you get someone independent (of your choosing) to have a look at it?

I'd be very wary if i were you with that many issues. You don't want to buy something to spend hundreds fixing it.

Its a wrangler 2012, mot where done from nov 2022 to december 2022 and i dont if they are the same place as they ask for v5c number to check test location. Did a full report check, car was sold by seller to dealer with many issues, the dealer done mot again but same issue reappared and they done 4 total mot to get it cleared. I did asked them about paperwork for the job done but they dont have any so i really doubt they fixed it. ( reg is HJ62XDD ) idk if its allowed to post.

Not difficult to find on Autotrader and the dealer doesn't surprise me - they're quite good at having 'odd' stock that people are looking for (I went to them looking at a couple of C350e Estates, one was missing charging cables, the other had a family of mice resident around the boot area/cables)

The physical condition of the stock is often questionable (as seen here in the long MOT history) and the after sales service is non-existent - especially if you're not local to them.

If you have to go ahead then proceed with caution

Yeah thats why i was reluctant, i dont mind spending 1k on it to fix the brake hose and other stuff but still.. just called them and they also said they are missing the service booklet so no service history. its a 3 hours trip so kinda far from me. And what surprise me is how they are able to clear all the faults and get a clear mot.

Does rac warranty works in this case? are any worth?

Run away (or in fact you're far enough away - just don't come any closer to it) - if there's stuff missing now and with the MOT history it's not worth it as a distance purchase. I'm not a million miles from them and I've yet to hear anything positive about them

Very minor issues, not hard to fix.
    Four attempts sound very dodgy.
I bet they phoned that mot in on the last attempt.
    Run for the hills.
