P60 mistake by Pension provider

My P60 for 2022_2023 by pension provider had incorrect amount of Pension recorded. They subsequently announced that a new corrected one would be issued. The new one arrived showing correct amount of pension £3k for the year.

On logging into the HMRC website I noticed that there are now 2  P60s from my pension provider the correct one and also the wrong one which shows £22k of pension paid for the year. The incorrect P60 however shows the correct amount of tax paid by me, but this will now cause a problem. In that HMRC will assume I received roughly 9 times more pension than I actually did ! So my Tax allowance for the next Tax year would be badly affected.

The pension provider advises me to sort out the mess with Inland Revenue myself. I am unable to get hold of HMRC over the phone for a quick resolution.
Does anyone have an idea how to proceed?

I sure they do...but why should you sort out their errors? Push back firmly and ask them to take the necessary action without delay - and start a formal complaint if they don't get on with remedying matters.
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

Unsurprising.  No doubt queries of this nature are creating yet another  bottleneck.

The "service" appears to be run on two men and a dog  (working from home no doubt) and the dog's doing most of the work? :)

I called HMRC last week about a pension tax code issue, had a 20 minute wait, spoke to an adviser and sorted within a few minutes.

Perhaps two dogs were at work that day  :)

I am not a payroll person so dont understand how that side works exactly, but surely this is something they would put through with some kind of correction within their payroll system?.

Yes, in some cases, a person has to speak to HMRC themselves, as they wouldnt be able to do that for you, more relevant in cases such as "why did you you use this tax code" "we got told to by HMRc, you'll have to ask them", rather than this situation.

I agree to push back and complain if they dont sort out. That said, i'd probably also eventually get hold of HMRC myself too so i can be sure it was fixed.

Yes. It's a bit of a faff when it relates to a prior year, which is why lazy payroll people are trying to avoid sorting it out, but they need to. It's unlikely HMRC will simply take the word of a caller that a P60 was issued in error and 'they really didn't earn that much....'.

Similar here, 9:15 am with 34 minutes total call time.

    34 minutes total call time.

If this includes a long discussion of a complex situation, not too bad.

But if it is thirty minutes on hold and four minutes getting a reference.....

What have we come to that this level of  public service is considered acceptable?

Thanks everyone for responding with suggestions etc. I guess a phone call to HMRC is inevitable in this instance.
Also discovered that the same P60
mistake affects other people by the same pension provider - but not sure of how many !

Reading through this thread it sounds like the starting point should be to establish exactly what HMRC have at their end.

It could be one pension which started at £22k but has now been corrected to £3k.

Or if could be £22k plus a separate/second pension of £3k.

If the latter I guess it could be either a mistake with how the pension provider corrected things or something has gone wrong at HMRC's end but I suspect only HMRC can say how this gets sorted.
