Switching

I have never switched. My husband pays bills and I have a separate current account. I work part time and don’t earn a lot. So I don’t have any direct debits. Are these always required to get bonus? Can I suddenly set one up and then switch soon after or would that be a red flag to bank? Don’t want to ruin reputation with them. Thank you.

You need to read the terms of any switching offers you're thinking of signing up to, as many require the account to have direct debits but some don't. If they are needed, it's not a problem to set them up prior to initiating the switch, so don't concern yourself about 'reputation'!
Make sure that the new account is fully operational before initiating a switch, i.e. cards/PINs/readers, online/app access, inbound and outbound transactions tested, etc....2 -
The only thing to be careful of is that banks might not let you open another account with them after you have switched away, so don't switch away from a bank you'd like to use later.
