Family Tax Credits Special Needs Aged 18

Hi, son (complex special needs, still in education) has turned 18 and on the latest Family Tax Credits summary we have been advised payments are doing down approximately £150 per week. I informed tax credits straight away re him being in education until at least Summer 24 and they sent an updated version with the amounts the same . I wrote to them a month ago (no reply as yet) , this is the only change. I thought the payments would stay the same until around Summer 24 when I expect we'll be transferred over to Universal Credit. Has anyone else had similar ? Initial advice from CAB is it should stay the same, have a phone appointment for end of June to go through everything in more detail. Thank you

Are the payments reducing at end of August? If so, It's perfectly normal for it to be this way. Once the new term starts in September your tax credits will be renewed and it will then show the new amount. Although you told them last summer that he was staying in full time education until at least 2024 you will still need to contact them again this summer to report the changes.

Thank you so much. Yes, the letter states reducing end of August. Will I need to contact them even though it's noted on the recent letter under his name that he is/will be in education ?

Totally get we/ he will have to go onto UC by Summer 24 and not looking forward to it !

You should contact them just to be sure. Managed migration for UC has already started so it could be before next summer. Are you aware that the child element of UC is only paid up until 1st September following your son's 19th birthday. (if remaining in full time education)

Yes, I've had a provisional look at how it would look on UC for us, basically 50p a week a difference approximately. DWP have me as appointee for son so hoping it isn't too messy. Thank you for all your help
