Opening new bank account

I have moved to an area where my existing bank - Nationwide does not have a branch. The only one here is Lloyds so I wish to open an account there so that I can easily call in for anything, transfer funds etc.
I checked my credit rating which is 989 but I scored low on available funds. I then closed a credit card I have not used for a long time, and having only one which is in good standing.
So my question is, how long do I need to wait to apply for a current account or can I do it now? Thanks.

You can apply now. 989 is a number made up by the credit reference agency. Lloyd's won't see this number let alone use it.
Your credit file is only likely to affect a current account application if it shows a history of missed payments, or if you are applying for an overdraft too.2 -
I've opened current accounts with defaults on my credit report and with most banks it was fine, so you shouldn't have a problem.Being realistic if there is only a Lloyds there then it will probably close soon, so you might be better off getting used to internet/app banking.2
