Which bank account?

Hi all,

just wanted some advice, tempted to switch to either NatWest or Lloyds because of their interest rates on savings if you open up an account with them. Which one would you say is the best please?

Thank you x

It depends a lot on how much you want to save. If you want to put away more than £150 a month, you're likely to do better at Lloyds as they have higher monthly limits than Natwest. Other than that, there's 6 in one and half a dozen in the other. Though Natwest pay a bit more for switching to them.

With Club Lloyds (monthly credit £2K+, but some perks)  you can have two regular savers - normal and Club - £250+£400
At Natwest you can save up to £5K with higher interest rate, but at £150/month.

If all you are looking for are better savings rates you don't need to actually switch to them (though that can give you a switching bonus).

You can simply open a new current account with them. And why not try both?

Just from a customer service point of view, I’d say NatWest. I couldn’t tell you them directly, although Lloyds are terrible. Have you checked out first direct?

I've never had an issue with LBG, having banked with Lloyds for about 20 years and Halifax for around 9 years. I wouldn't touch Natwest personally.

The way I see it is this. No matter which bank/building society you pick you will likely find someone who has had issues with them, as has been evidenced to some extent by the previous 2 posts. I've found most of the time you can go about banking with the high street banks and many of the building societies without even needing to speak to anyone. Therefore I just pick solely on whichever banks are offering me the best rates, incentives and to a lesser extent convenience for banking with them at the time, ignoring customer service reviews.

I've banked with Natwest for 20+ years and only ever had one problem, when the branch paid my cheque into the wrong account. Very quickly sorted out though. No reason to avoid them in my opinion
