Hello,

My is over 80 and in receipt of pension credit and attendance allowance. My mum receives small amount of state pension and higher rate mobility PIP.

The property they were living in receives full council tax benefit. However, they will be moving to another property and my brother will be moving with them after divorce unfortunately.

My brother receives around £370pw after deductions. I am not sure if they will receive the full council tax benefit now after son moving and working.

They live in Birmingham.

Thanks

They receive full council tax paid presumably because they are on Pension credit Guarantee ? I presume their pension credit claim includes 2 x severe disability premiums?

He is on pension credit guaranteed. I don't know 2x severe disability premium. Dad does get attendance allowance and mum higher rate mobility and medium rate care PIP. If that counts.

Because they receive AA and PIP your brother will not be expected to contribute towards the Council Tax.

However if he is not getting a disability benefit himself the parents will lose their Severe Disability Additions on the Pension Credit.

So can I confirm Birmingham Council would not ask my brother to contribute to council tax when he is working?

How much is the secret disability on pension credit?

    It's a lot to lose. Around £140 a week.

As already advised the council will not require your brother to contribute to the council tax if the parents are getting guarantee Pension Credit. This assumes the tenancy and Council Tax are in the names of the parents and not on the name of your brother.

When you say ‘secret disability’ do you mean the ‘severe disability addition’ that was previously advised they may be getting on the pension credit. If so, the current value for two people both getting the SDA would be £139.20/week.
