Just wondering if anyone is hearing of any suppliers that are about to start up their EV tariffs for new customers?
I've recently had smart meters fitted, but my current supplier, Scottish (British) Gas, are not offering an EV tariff at this time.
Thanks

Octopus have never stopped offering EV tariffs, British Gas currently offer EV tariffs, I think a few others may do and the rest will likely start offering them again later this year.

What EV and charge point do you have?

Probably worth looking at Intelligent Octopus. This is what I hope to move to in May when my current contract expires but currently neither my car or charge point are comparable.

I'd expect the cheaper rates to be on their way out. As EVs increase then overnight charging will start to become a peak load. I did a rough calc around a year ago that suggested replacing all private car mileage with EV would increase electricity use by 18%.

Really happy with IO so far. We've been on it since August last year and it has worked perfectly everytime for charging (Model Y + Hypervolt). When we signed up for, the off peak/charging rate was 7.5p/kwh but my friend signed up soon after and it had gone up to 10p/kwh. I wouldn't be surprised if it increases further by the time we're ready to review our tariff.

Only problem we've had with IO so far is that they haven't actually generated any bills for us, even though you are meant to receive one every month. Nobody can tell me why. We've also had them get in touch a few times to say they would be adjusting our payment down because they seemed to only be looking at the energy used at the day time rate but ignoring the night. We've had to keep putting our payment back to to make sure we don't get in to debt. It's like their systems can't quite understand the two-rate tariff, but maybe that isnt affecting others.

I have been on Octopus' smart tariffs for nearly 4 years. The most common reason for an automatic bill failure is a missing or corrupted 30 minute data segment. When data is 'pulled' the meter sends a return comprising of index readings and an XML file which contains the 30 minute usage. Octopus bills against the latter not index readings. For example, I am on Go Faster which is also a dual-rate tariff but all accrued units are indexed on just one meter register.

The smart team can attempt a manual data pull if there is missing data. It is pretty easy to see via apps such as OctopusWatch when data is missing.

    Have you contacted [email protected]?

We have been with IO since November, and it has been regular monthly billing with no issues. I also download half-hourly data from Octopus website once a month just in case. If I were you I wouldn't sit on it, but keep the records and push to resolve the billing problem. There was post some time ago from someone on a similar smart tariff (think it was Go) where they were billed variable price instead of cheap night time rate because Octopus wasn't getting the data or something.

OVO have introduced a tariff that works with Teslas, essentially they give you a separate refund on your bill for charging that they control through an app.

Perhaps Octopus is also moving to "anytime" charging, in a sense? On IO tariff the app used to say "plug in after 5pm and we will create a charging plan", and now it simply says plugin and we will create the plan, the reference to 5pm is gone. The other day I connected the car at 2:30pm and the charging plan Octopus created included 3-4:30pm interval.

This way Octopus still has advantage, as all electricity used during scheduled intervals (as well as night time) is charged at 10p, not only EV electricity like OVO.
