I can't seem to work it out also.

I have a smart meter and Eon say it's been read. i have electricity only with them.

Bill was £170 - £180 a month Oct and Nov (after the price cap change) then £384 in December and £322 in January. Usage went from around 474 kwh to 950 kwh in those last 2 months. Nothing has changed apart from a 2kw heater we bought and don't use much but when we do it's on the eco setting which is 1kw or so. So even using it for 4 hours a day at 2kw and 69p (which we don't) for 31 days would mean £85.56 a month, adding this to the £180 previous bills were is approx £265. There's no way I can get it to near £400.

We have gas central heating and use that 4-5 hours a day. That's a separate supplier.

    I don't know what's going on.

@tifo Does the reading on your electricity bill match the reading on the actual meter?

Download the free App BRIGHT and you can monitor your 30 minute electricity and gas usage. The vertical bars show the total energy used in kWh in each 30 min period.

Have a look at your bills. What is the letter against the reading - A, C, E,S  or our bill or your bill,

Even 474 kWh sounds very high for a gas heated property.  Did both the present and previous readings have E against them.?
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

It's 474 kwh for electricity use only. That's when the bills were below £200. From Dec they've almost doubled with little change in use.

I'm with another supplier for gas.

So what does it say next to the meter readings as @robin9 has asked earlier?

As others have said, ignore the word Smart. All meters record usage and you are billed on the basis of 2 readings: one at the start of the period and the other at the end. If smart meter readings have been used, then the readings will be annotated with a ‘S’. If you see an ‘E’ this may mean that your supplier cannot make contact with your meter.  The solution to this is simple. Go to your meter; write down the reading and then pass it on to your supplier.

If you are unsure about reading your meter, then tell us the meter manufacturer and model and someone will provide the information that you need to access the reading/s.

Statistically, the number of meters that are found to be faulty is very small. You have the right to ask your supplier for a meter check but it will charge you if the meter is found to be fault free.

I would check past bills (kWh not £s) and look for things that have changed. Your use of a 2kW fire comes to mind. Four hours a day equals 8kWh/day or approximately 250kWh for the month.

Is it some kind of smart heater, 'Eco' could be anything but if its actually on without you knowing it.

    make / model?

Then is is someone leaving on a water heater by accident.
