IHT205 and probate question - deceased passed away after 1 Jan 22

Hi all,

My Dad passed away in Dec 2022, I'm the executor of his will and applying for Probate

He was a widow and his Estate is valued below the threshold of £325K, I've used the .gov.uk online checker tool to confirm the amounts for IHT

In section 7.9 & 7.10 of the PA1P probate form, it asks you to enter the values from the IHT205 form, however on the IHT205 form itself it says "Do not use this form for deaths on or after 1 January 2022"

As he passed away after this date, should I leave 7.9 & 7.10 blank on the probate PA1P form? I feel the information given contradicts itself.

Thanks in advance! :)

Is there a reason why you are (by the sounds of it) completing a paper form rather than applying online ?
Anecdotely online probate applications are processed considerably faster than paper ones....

Not just anecdotally, the online performance statistics show that in December online applications took 3.7 weeks from submission to grant, and paper applications took 15 weeks.  If the application is ‘stopped’ then this adds about three months delay whether or not the application is digital, and I understand that it usually takes a couple of weeks from grant before the certificates are received by post.

If you are doing the paper form rather than the online one, then you would fill in yes to 7.5 then fill in 7.6 - 7.7 - 7.8 and then it says "go to legal statement". So the boxes after 7.8 do not relate to you.
