We took Martin's advice a year ago and took a 1 year fixed rate with EON. This is due to expire on 28th February.  What are my option for the cheapest energy tariffs?

There are no fixes on the market at the moment, quite a lot of people are or have moved to octopus for their tracker type products or the other option is the Government Energy Price Guarantee rates averaged across the country at 34p kWh elec and 10.3p kWh for gas.

April 1 is going to be interesting when the next tariffs are announced.
13p gas 43p elec at a guess, however with any luck it will be mild and a good time to cut back and it should go down to below the current rates of 34/10.3p in July according to latest predictions.

As has been mentioned, there don't appear to be any "deals" at the moment. My Eon fix ends on the 15th Feb.. All they offered was Flex which I agreed to.
I did check others but they were all much the same rates. Octopus, I think it was , the unit rates were very similar but the daily charge was/is higher.
I'll just ride it out for the time being.

I am with Eon next on a fix til Apr 2024 but there is considerable noise about octopus tracker products and looking over the past few months they are considerably cheaper than anything out there, I wouldn't say they were no risk but as long as you are on top of things octopus will switch you to their SVT quickly off the tracker. £50 referral bonus available from many people here I am sure.

My fix v11 with EON Next finishes at the end of Feb, I’m tempted to move to the Octopus tracker. But to save any potential problems I might wait until after 1 March to make sure I get the final £67 credit. I can imagine it going wrong if I switch before then!

You should get the final EBSS payment from whichever supplier you are with at 1/3. I switched to Octopus last autumn and was most impressed that it was done and dusted in 48 hours - so a switch pretty soon is likely to see you on safe ground for that.

You will probably need to call them to manage a switch to them - you can either state that you are moving for good customer service or if using a referral code as mentioned previously you can say they have been recommended.

That’s good to know, thank you. I’ll start the ball rolling tomorrow. The tracker seems like a no-brainier, for now at least.

From what others have said Octopus are also very good at actioning tariff switches when required, so if you decided Tracker wasn’t for you, it should be simple enough to switch back to SVR I assume.

Tariff changes are actioned at midnight on the day that the request is made. However, to prevent tariff hopping, Octopus has the following contract term:

‘Whilst you can always switch from standard tariffs to smart tariffs if you decide it’s not for you, If you switch from Agile Octopus, Cosy Octopus, Octopus Go, and Octopus Go Green to another Octopus tariff, you cannot switch back to a smart tariff within 30 days.’

I am with E.ON on fix V15 until end June. My understanding of what will happen when fix ends on end Feb as per the OP here, tariff will revert to Next Flex, and will be set to the EPG level. No point in switching, everyone else will be the same. On 1 April, Next Flex will move to the new EPG level. If my fix V15 is below that, I will  move from the current EPG up to the fixed rates I agreed last July. What seems interesting is that some forecasters are saying that from July the market rates might come down such that suppliers might offer deals below the EPG.
