  • Aldi have a machine on offer this Thursday for £44.99. Seems like a good offer not sure if it does all the stitches you need though. Worth a look

  • an excellent one would be the Husquvarna Viking, Swedish brand. about 20y odd guarantee if treated well. electronic - simeplest one does about 15-30 stitiches, buttons holes etc. its all metal parts inside unlike the Brother or Toyotas. SInger is rubbish. You could look on google search for Husquvarna website or the Sewing Forum. There's a specialist shop in Coventry nr Central Six retail park which specialise in this range.. Or John Lewis may have other brands - middle of the road ranges. I think the other 'best' brands are Bernina and Pfaff. HTH.
  • Costco have one for around £45 at the moment.

Apparently there are often deals in January if stockists have over-bought expecting to sell them as Christmas presents.

The Swedish ones are amongst the best
    Husquvarna and Elna.Both long lasting,
easy to use and set up it doesent matter if its
the most basic or dearest model youi will still
    have a decent machine.

I currently have an Elna its neat does
everything,so many good features.I find the
best place to go is John Lewis the ladies who
work in that dept are very helpful and not just
when you are buying one but afterwards as well
if you cant figure out something, need help or
    advice they are very obliging.
Also the prices are reasonable too .

Theres a world of difference between the
makes I mentioned and the Japanese ones.
there are lots who have machines sat
    gathering dust,mines in regular use
just because its easy to set up & a
dream to use.Should add too that I am
by no means a proffessional just a rank
amatuer who tried someone else machine
and was hooked.Never bought a curtain,
    cushion since,even recovered my settee
as well as umpteen repairs, craft work etc
its the machine it makes it all so easy to do.
