help needed getting prices for adding kids to my policy whilst daughter still on provisional but due

HI

I own two cars having just purchased a small run around that the kids can borrow when whey need to or home from uni. (one son in Sheffield). Daughter has a provisional licence now but hoping to pass by Easter... I just cannot work out how to get a comparison for when she has passed her test.

One car is group13 insurance and the one I am due to buy is gp 3. I was going to move my NCB from my Gp 13 car (which will now only be used for hols and camping etc) to the Gp 3 car in order to reduce the horrific premiums however I can get a reasonable enough quote with my daughter as a provisional driver at the moment to not need to do this but then when she passes they increase by £1000+....I cannot work out how best to proceed and the online/app comparision sites are not much help? what have other people done in the same situation?

can anyone give me any advice on how to proceed? or where to go to get more info? we have 10 days till we collect the new car ! I hadn't taken into account I couldn't use my ncb twice...duh!! I am absolutely flummoxed and have spent hours online to no avail...

There are a few things to consider here, but I think you will need to speak to insurers direct rather than using a comparison site.  Will you be the main driver of the vehicle?  If not, it needs to be insured with the person who will use is most as the main driver.  To do otherwise, as many people do, can actually be viewed as fraud.

Hi yes, I will be as my daughter uses the bus every day and my son lives in Sheffield ..it would be mainly for holiday periods and occasional eve/weekends. I will use it for commuting to work and shopping etc.

There is another post relating to a very similar situation which you might find useful.  https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6423059/need-help-with-car-insurance-company-cancelling-my-insurance#latest

I am not suggesting that either you or the other poster are 'fronting' but bear it in mind.

Thanks Tellit01, gosh makes for interesting reading, poor Sayed!

I finally found a way around it, I think...I searched for my daughter as having both a provisional and full driving licence  (as main driver) and Ticker (through confused.com) were the only company to quote on both with a less significant difference ..I also moved my NCB from the Group 13 car to the Gp 3 one. I will ring them up tomorrow to clarify and confirm the prices, but hopefully once she passes I can feel assured that the price won't be jumping up by an extra thousand pounds .. although I am aware that prices can fluctuate rapidly too!

Although it is mainly going to be driven by me, this way I am hoping to be able to help give them a bit of a NCB start.
