Son moving away to find work - giving up a local job - any benefits claimable?

Our 24 year old son is living with us (parents) and currently has a part-time job at a local supermarket (3 days, 6 hours a day). He's been unable to find any other part-time work locally. Also, he's been applying career jobs connected to his degree qualification (Maths) both locally and nationally. Unfortunately, this hasn't resulted in any more work (and not many interviews either!). He isn't currently claiming any benefits.
So he's considering moving to Manchester, renting, and using some savings (+ the bank-of-mum-and-dad!). The plan being to get work there. However that would mean he'd be giving up his existing part-time job.
Under these circumstances, i.e. giving up a job and moving away, would he be eligible for any benefits once he moved prior to hopefully getting employment.
Also is there any means-testing in play in relation to our (parents) financial situation.

He may be able to claim Universal Credit for help towards his rent and living costs, but that is means tested and would depend on what savings he has. He is independent of you so your financial situation is not relevant. He can use one of the benefit calculators (EntitledTo or Turn2Us are both good choices) to get an idea of what he may be entitled to receive. If he has savings / capital of over £16,000 he will not be entitled to claim.
