I have a current claim with my insurance following a water leak, but my insurance is due for renewal in a week and this claim has not been finalised. Can I switch to another insurer despite the claim still being ‘open’?
Current provider has given me a quote and it’s ridiculous.

As long as you declare it you can switch insurers. How that will affect them finalising your claim im not sure

In principle you can however unlikely Motor and other classes some home insurers are not prepared to take on clients with an ongoing claim. 

If you do switch there will be no official impact on your claim, though you may argue if you are looking for a gesture of goodwill it may be less likely to come to an ex-customer.
