Product delivery - unreasonable suggested delivery slot

Hi guys,

I placed an order with an online company last week (I won't name them) for some MDF boards for a DIY project. The order has been processed and is ready for delivery but the times of day that they're suggesting to deliver the goods have so far been unreasonable (one hour slots at midnight and 11pm, so far), as someone with a young child.

I'm wondering what protection I would have as a result of this and whether I'm entitled to a refund if the company can't deliver the goods at a reasonable time of day (I've suggested that any time between 6am and 9pm would be fine).

Cheers
James

If you can't agree a suitable delivery time  the  you should be able to cancel and get a full refund

If this is a "Consumer" purchase you can cancel for a refund. Can you source the goods readily elsewhere at a comparable price and more convenient delivery slot?

Just to confirm, the order is for stock items? The processing did not include cutting to size or other customization?

That would make a difference about whether you can cancel.

The processing does include cutting to size, yes. Specifically cutting MDF boards to a specified length and width. Should have been clear about that, sorry.

Since the product has been made to your measurements you can't cancel it  :/

What do their Terms and Conditions say about delivery? It sounds as though their contract with the delivery company is that the delivery people pick up a number of packages from the factory then arrange their own schedule for efficient delivery.

Sometimes you can pay extra for a guaranteed timed delivery, such as the morning of a specific day. Are you able to do that?

Could they deliver to a neighbour of family member if you don't like the times they have proposed?

I'm sure neighbours and family members would be delighted to take delivery at 11pm or midnight.  According to the OP they are the only times offered.

They use their own fleet of vans but, yes, they put a load of deliveries on one van and then deliver in succession. And given I'm likely the furthest customer away (they're in London and I'm in South Wales) this probably means mine is last off the van and therefore latest. I have asked about simply moving up the queue so we'll see what happens.

But it sounds like I might just have to suck it up and stay up late one night :(

Thanks again for the responses on this one

I cannot see many lorry drivers / delivery drivers happy to be delivering to a private house at that time of night, its dark, maybe lack of street lights, also some residential areas have restrictions of size of lorries after 11pm or so.

Can you go back to the unit and talk to a manager or ring them and ask for something more in your time frame?

I can't see being dark as an issue with the amount of daylight time we have over  winter.
Also think a driver could prefer it, much easier leaving a lorry in the middle of a side street at midnight than midday.
    But agree could be restrictions.

I have had a delivery of garden furniture that needed assembled,  which took place after 8 pm , in the dark.

Similar to the OP,  delivery was by the manufacturer  and involved several deliveries over a large area.
