Dual Fuel balance high - refund not forthcoming

current provider soenergy holds balance worth 2-3 winter months !
What would happen if they don't give adequate refund as requested and I decided to cancel the direct debit arrangement ?
Many thanks

You'd very likely pay an increased unit charge and standing charge.
If you are on fixed tariff that demands DD payments as part of its T's and C's then you'd be switched to SVR.
You'd have to remember that your winter bills would be very high in comparison to your summer ones, and budget accordingly.

When did you request the refund?
Is your current DD correct for your actual annual use?
Are they getting regular meter readings - either from you, or from a smart meter?
Have they refused to refund already, or do you think they might?

is your balance high because you've not had a bill/statement for 3 or maybe 6 months?

Went into the winter with a £700 balance, still at £490, very happy.
    I like a positive balance.
