Cancelled insurance

Please help.

My 17 year old son had insurance with a provisional licence. It was cancelled as the black box wasn't put in the car by the deadline (he never drove during this time as it was when it was really icy on the roads).

He has now passed his test but quotes ,if we get them, for car insurance are through the roof as we are declaring the cancelled policy.  Is this right?  He is 17 and this will now go against him for life.

I'm not sure what to do next for him......please help.

They don't just cancel, there are usually several warning messages and threats before they do. However, what's done is done.

He might be better contacting a specialist broker such as Adrian Flux who will have come across this issue many times. For the future, I think there are a couple of companies who only ask about cancellations in the last 5 years, again a broker might be able to help.

Contact a broker or speak directly with Insurance Company to explain the situation. In some situations, "computer says no" is an unhelpful default.

Not for life, but probably until about 21, when rates tend to come down anyway.
As above, you need a specialist broker.

Direct Line, last time I checked, and its assorted brands (Churchill, Privilege) only ask if you've had a policy cancelled in the last 5 years. Which isn't much help now, but might be somewhere down the line.

    Hi

    Seconded

Try the phone and see what they say.

    Were warnings not sent OP?

    Either way, good luck,

    Thanks
