I’m in an all electric property - my whole street is, although the surrounding streets have gas too. I’ve spoken to the areas gas provider and they originally quoted me £1k to connect me to the mains pipe (digging up the path etc). After speaking to them today, they said that the quote was based on the assumption that my property is 20m or less away from the mains gas pipe. As I am 100m away, the quote is now £75k. I’m gobsmacked! I’ve gone back and asked them to explain how they made that calculation but has anyone had this done, and can it really cost that much?!

I had a new gas connection but many years ago. To cut the cost I did my own trench and 100mm ducting  from back of footpath to where I wanted the new meter

Try for that it might reduce the bill more than you realise

Get the whole street interested and that cost per property should drop significantly.

When it was a nationalised industry, new connections were free.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

They were not free, they were just cross subsidised.
