Do you have an overdue balance?

When did you receive a bill?
Are you paying on receipt of bill?

  • There is no overdue balance. They claim that we are £980 in debt. For the last year they have been using estimated readings even though I have been submitting photographs. In July I requested that they send someone to read the meter. This has been done 3 times and each time they have ignored the reading and used estimates.

We pay monthly by direct debit.

Those two statements are somewhat contradictory.

When did you last have a bill, "paying" by Direct Debit just puts money into a pot that the bill will come out of when it is generated.

Are the estimates higher than your actual readings and if so by how much? Have you asked them why they are ignoring the submitted or meter read readings? Have you raised a formal complaint? Have you checked the meter you are submitting readings for has the same serial number as is on your bill?
  • 1. Overdue balance: As we pay by direct debit they can take whatever they want!
    2. We get a bill every moth on 22nd.
    3. I haven't compared the estimates to real readings. I have asked them why they were ignoring my photographs but got nowhere. When I asked why they ignored the meter readers readings they said they didn't receive them. The meter reader said that they would be inputted in 2 days. The serial number is correct.

What is the latest estimated meter reading they are using and what is the correct meter reading?

Time then for a formal written complaint.

Have you done your own sums ?
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

They typically fix your direct debit for a period of 6 months, so you might find that they change it soon.
Have you tried giving them the actual meter readings rather than photographs? If you are sending them as emails then attachments may be stripped or the email quarantined completely, or ring them up and give them the meter readings and then ask for you to be billed to those readings.

I would suggest you do compare the estimate readings to the real readings first before posting here?

But now you have posted here let us know how they do compare and how far they are out in kWh

Do you own calculation based on the readings you submitted to them and see what's the difference.  Make sure you take into account any changes to the tariff as much as possible to ensure some accuracy.
