Claiming JSA makes no difference to entitlement to Tax Credits. JSA (new style) is only payable for 6 months. It is taxable and must be included in your income declared for Tax Credits.

If you think your 2022-23 taxable income is going to be over £2500 or more different from 2021-22 you should let Tax Credits know. Your current award is based on 2021-22 but would be reviewed against expected 2022-23 income if the difference is over £2500 (but would then be reviewed again when your actual 2022-23 income is reported by you.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.

    Thank you
So my salary was approx 12k , so the income will be less but dependent on how long I am out of work for

Am I best to claim jsa now whilst looking then update 22/23 when I get a new job ( within 6 months)

When you choose to claim JSA is more about your financial cash flow. If you expect to get a new job without too long then I would have thought you want to claim JSA now. You can’t backdate a claim. Obviously the downside of claiming is that in return to the £77/week you will have to report to JobCentre confirming the details of your job search activities for35 hours/week.

If you haven’t done it prior to then you will be updating the 2022-2023 figures when you do your renewal pack.
