Did you not print of any doc's for your insurance, or receive in post?
If you know when the insurance is due, go back through ALL emails around that time, rather than just a search.

Interesting you are worried about using the AskMid & it flagging you have had a accident. Just what you have done if you had one?
If I have an accident then that’s what the website is for! I don’t want to just lie saying I’ve had a crash and then get bombarded by insurers asking about my ‘accident’

almost all documents are emailed nowadays, I didn’t print off the policy paperwork or I wouldn’t be in this situation, lesson learnt

I literally have nothing in my emails about the car insurance.

*** If I have an accident then that’s what the website is for!*** When you insure a vehicle they issue a *Certificate of Insurance* which is a legal documdent.

The Police can ask you to produce it even if you are insured - you cannot tell them to look on a website.

Whilst documents are emailed you say there is nothing in your emails.  Are you sure you are insured? Not unusual for Car Tax and Insurance to have renewal dates months apart (My tax due 1st Jan Ins 19th April) and people do forget.

Certainly we are going around in circles to arrive at the truth.

The OP confirmed right at the very start that they were. The AskMid website shows their vehicle as insured. So unless a random third party has insured the car instead, and the OP just has random DDs coming out of their bank account, I think it’s fairly safe to say that they have insured the vehicle. As to what the insurance policy actually covers, that’s another question but not the one being asked.

Some are emailed, some you access via an online account... the fact they cannot find it today doesnt mean 6 months ago it wasnt there but they were over enthusiastic with the delete button and accidentally got rid of it

Going to be interesting if you get pulled by plod.
If OP is adamant they’re insured is there any mileage in popping into local police (with evidence of ownership etc) and asking them? Can the police access such details or can they only work from what you tell them?

Different classes of users can search for different information and retrieve different information. An insurer for example can only search by VRM/date and will only get the insurers details but the MID also hold the policyholders name and address plus the names of ND.

The police are likely to be able to make different searches and receive different information back given their differing need. It's likely they can only use it for specific purposes too, just because they are the police doesn't give them automatic rights. When the police want more info from an insurer then they have to submit a data protection release form which has been duly authorised. We've all seen the press though etc and sometimes people breach rules in an attempt to be helpful.

Good luck trying to find a police station or office open! No chance round here!
