Hi

I moved house last week and need to change the address on my car insurance.

i cannot for the life of me find out who I’m insured with. I’ve typed in every keyword on my emails, nothings come up. I’ve tried calling the last 3 companies I used to see if it had renewed with them. I’ve checked my banks direct debits but there’s nothing giving me help on them, just a couple of ‘premium credit’ direct debits.

I’ve checked on ‘askmid’ and I’m definitely insured!

in 20 years this has never happened to me, does anyone know how I can find out who I’m insured with?

thanks

    How to check insurance online?
Step 1: Visit the official website of VAHAN e-Services and click on “Know your vehicle details” from the top navigation. Verification Code'. Step 3: Click on 'Search Vehicle'. Step 4: You will be able to view the insurance expiry date of the vehicle along with other details of the vehicle.2 Dec 2022

I'm not surprised so How about this (last item)

With most of us holding more than one type of insurance policy, such as car, home and travel, it can be easy to forget who you’re insured with.

Fortunately, if you can’t remember your insurance company there are several ways to find out:

    • Check your bank statements: look for any payments to an insurance company around the time it’s due.

    • Check your emails: run a search for ‘car insurance’ to see whether you have correspondence from your car insurer. It’s worth checking spam and trash folders too

    • Retrieve a quote: if you’ve used a comparison site to run a quote, see if you can log back in and look it up

    • Lodge a Subject Access Request: you can do this through the MIB, but you may be charged a fee

How do you normally pay? DD, or an upfront one-off paymen? If the latter, it should show up prior to the renewal date on your bank statement or cc statement?

I’ve checked this, the only 2 it could be is ‘premium credit’ I’ve logged into their own website but that gives nothing away. I know one of the two is a house insurance policy I took out last week upon completion of the house purchase

AskMID has two services, one is to check your own vehicle is insured today or not and is free. The other is a paid for service intended to be used if a third party has hit you and reveals the insurer, policy number and contact telephone number for the date of the alleged accident.

Whilst its most likely a breach of its terms you could attempt to use it naming your vehicle as the third party.

By the fact you're paying via Premium Credit it'd suggest you've almost certainly bought from a broker or other intermediary as most direct insurers self fund policyholder loans for paying by installments. If you telephone Premium Credit they will advise who they paid the monies to.

Perfect, thank you! Have you used this service? Will it alert my insurance that I’ve been involved in an accident? Thanks

Sort of... insurers have access to the service but they have it integrated into their claims system and pay on a subscription model rather than a pay per use via the website.

I've certainly never seen a claim come into our systems via MID and have dealt with a couple of hundred cases where the claim has been registered from a third party report. I cannot say it doesnt happen but I didnt see evidence of it in my days. The form asks for your involvement and so in theory you could choose the "other" option and put something in the free text box but that may prevent it giving a realtime response and push into into the queue of the cases that need review by a person... dunno as never have tried it.

Did you not print of any doc's for your insurance, or receive in post?
If you know when the insurance is due, go back through ALL emails around that time, rather than just a search.

Interesting you are worried about using the AskMid & it flagging you have had a accident. Just what you have done if you had one?
