Hi
Our flat door entry phone handset is old, yellow and bit tatty.
Can I replace that with any new door entry phone-or does it have to be of the same make and model of the outdoor unit at main entrance to property?

No you can generally fit a universal model to replace the one you have. I fitted this one a while back to replace an old one: https://doorentrydirect.com/comelit-universal-door-entry-phone-with-2-buttons-mini-series

Fairly easy to fit - the only issue is figuring out which wire connects where (there will be 5 wires for a simple system with one button to unlock the door). My old one had the following wiring:

    1 - Call button
    R - Microphone
    O - Common
    T - Speaker
    Z - Lock Release

    While the new one has:
    A - Lock Release
    B - Microphone
    C - Common
    D - Call button
    E - Speaker

Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning
