46p per kWh

Scottish Power are charging me 46p per kWh as a daytime rate and 11p nighttime between 12:30am and 7:00pm. They say this averages out at the 34p per kWh price cap but it obviously doesn’t because 95% is on the daytime rate. Are they allowed to do this?

That would be my main question - why are you on Economy 7? How is your home heated?

  • Octopus checked with me before switching me onto E7 that we'd be using 2 thirds or more at night. Presumably you've moved into somewhere that was already on E7 so Scottish Power didn't check. Without storage heaters or a battery it's unlikely to make sense.

Get in touch with them and ask to move off E7, it's very obviously not the tariff you need.

That is a lovely ratio for heavier off peak users (although your time appears to be a mistake as its 7 hours off peak but you have written 6.5 hours).  I wish I had the tariff available (yes, I know E7 can can still switch but a fault on my meter in my favour makes it more viable to stay put).

Yes they are allowed to do it. If you dont like their ratio then switch to a supplier with a different ratio.  Indeed, you have to question why you are even on economy 7 if 95% of your use is at the daytime rate.

    Hi,
how can 95% be on the daytime, when you are on nighttime between 12:30am and 7:00pm?
Can we have day/night usage figures please.
