1 year fixed rates

Hi all - looks like SmartSave and Investec are top at the moment. Does anyone have any experience of these? Any good? Customer service? Are they British banks etc? Thanks Pete

The Investec one is via Raisin. would be worth to check the forum about Raisin.

    Define "British"
If you mean do they operate under a British banking licence with FSCS cover then yes, they're British.
If you mean are they owned by a British company/person then it's more complicated.

There's an existing thread covering exactly the same territory of one-year fixes and the desire for (and definition of) 'Britishness':

RBS , Halifax and Northern Rock, were all British, and they all crashed big time in 2008 .

I've used Investec, no problems with them.

Investec is an Anglo-South African company. Is that close enough?

If the worry is using foreign deposit protection schemes e.g., Iceland's, France's etc. I don't think this is a much of a thing anymore, if at all. I know e.g., Fineco used to use Italy's and RCI used to use France's but they both changed to Britain's FSCS. Just keep a look out for their FSCS cover.

I'd suggest check on the FSCS website, not just trust a website logo.

Investec also offer the same rate direct, the only difference (that I can see) is that the account via Raisin needs £1k to open it, the account direct with Investec needs £5k.
Moneyfacts don't open list duplicate entries like this, so it's always good to check if you can get the account direct.
