Edf bill error re governmentrebate

This is my Edf bill received today they have deducted £132 (the first two £66 received from the government into my bank )from my credit si by my calculation I am no better off for having had the rebate . Also attached my calculation that I would be £417 in credit had I not had the government rebate because Edf have deducted the £132 from my credit if I was to use this £132 in my bank to pay my energy bill i d still not £417 in credit so no point n having the rebate right?  Am I missing something here?

yes you probably are. Look at page 2 of your bill where it gives you the readings & calculations & add together all of the charges then add the VAT. Ignore where it says total charges on the summary page & the total charges on the bottom of page 2. Add all of your payments & any credit carried forward from the last bill. Ignore the £66 that will show as credit/ refund then take your charges away from your credits & that should give you your correct balance.

    Welcome to the forum.

Most probably you are missing that EDF is deducting the £67 on page 2 of the bill directly from your usage without showing it as a line item.
  • Mrs W_5 I totally agree with you
On my recent bill dated 14 Feb, EDF have indeed passed the governments money to me by showing it as a credit and then a refund. This would be fine as a £0 transaction but what they have actually done is used the value of the refund to debit my account and then used this to up my direct debit payment.

    Here is my bill:
The balance on your last bill (16 August 2022) £22.19 in credit
You paid us credit £1,242.00 (6 payments of £207.00)
Refunds £333.00 (Please see Your payment history for more information)
Your charges for this period (including VAT) £1,223.00
Your new account balance £291.81 in debit

As you can see I paid them £1242 and was charged £1223 for my usage. In my mind that means that I overpaid £19 making me £41.19 in credit. But no they have taken off the £333 'refund' and I am now £291.81 in debt. Meaning that I am worse off having the rebate. How can this be? I suggest all EDF users check their bills!!!

It is shown as a line item, usually under 'recent account activity' where it shows up as a bill credit which reduces the charges which appear below the credit.

It does not mean that at all, you need to read the whole your bill. The credits are applied to your account, they are then refunded to your bank account meaning that they work out at zero cost.

Ok, yes it is a line item to show the credit, but not showing the deduction.

Hard to understand that the first line in a bill is deducted from a non showing sub total (gas subtotal + electrictiy sub total + 5% VAT) to resultt in the total.

Go onto the page where it shows your calculations. Add up your charges for the electricity & gas, add 5% VAT THEN take off your credits & you should get your balance. The EBSS money is credited to your account then debited so ends up having no baring on your overall bill. Ignore the summary page as the charges show what you have used minus the EBSS money
  • Sorry but you are all missing the point, I do indeed get the money into my account but as shown on my bill they use their refund of this money to put my account into debit. There is nowhere on the bill where the £67 is used to reduce my costs! The summary is a proper summary of the full charges page and then the refund is used to calculate my debit! Their system is erroneously doing this.

True  but it doesn't  -  that £67 is in your bank account.

Have you access to the online account ?  That shows the credit /  refund process quite clealry/
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

This has come up may times here.  The cost of your use is shown with the EBSS deducted.  As stated above if you work out your actual use then take away your payments it will give you the same account balance as EDF do.
